Sports and Games

These are wonderful threads to connect a nation together. Just recall any day of India –Pakistan match. People would love those games not because they are games, but because the excitement around them. I am sure the fathers of the games, had put in lot of thought in to design, implement and encourage these games for they also serve the purpose of integrating a nation.

The Joy brought with these games is amazing. People love a breath-taking match than a mere one side game. Any game whose result you can predict become a just a count in some team’s win/lose list.

Remember the Mexican waves that storm in the stadiums, believe me, it is a lot more fun being a part of that than just watching it over a TV sitting on your couch and munching some junk potatoes.

I recall the awesome final of India Pakistan T20 world cup match. It was really amazing.
People were out on streets and dancing, literally!
I don’t see any other occasion or event that can bring in this kind of oneness in a nation.

Long Live Sports & Games.

Long Live Sports personnel.

And,

Long Live the Spirit!

Aadhaar : A boon or a bane ?

Crowd exhibits behavior no less than a mob of sheep. If one walks, the rest will follow. With just the advertisement of the dispensing Aadhaar cards, people are forming queues to get a card for themselves with out thinking how it will effect their lives.
Though Government openly declares that Aadhaar card is not mandatory, it stealthily ploys so by making the card a compulsory for getting various facilities like gas connection, etc.
Given the corruption in our governments to astronomical figures in cases like 2G spectrum allocation, I seriously doubt the integrity of governments and government related bodies to maintain and protect this mammoth data which if gets into the wrong hands can rip our democracy into verticals based on caste, class, region, etc.
This card over the time accumulates the personal information like spending habits, travelling plans, saving schemes and exposes public to risk of unprecedented scams.
It may be alluring to have a single card in place of multiple cards like PAN, driving license, etc., but bringing all the information about an individual under one umbrella poses greater threats to fundamental rights of citizens.
The identity thefts and scams over the similar ID cards in the western world should warn us away from making such attempts, but our government pushes towards it.
The government has basic responsibility to educate its citizens the pros and cons of having an Aadhaar card, but I don't see any of it happening except for few ads popularizing these cards.

Only the future can say if Aadhaar Card is an expensive blunder!

Precommitment – Commiting now against the whims of future

In the movie, Young Frankenstein, the hero asks his assistants to lock him in a room and commands them not to open the door, no matters how terribly he may scream or how hard he may cry. He knows he will want to come out, so he enlists others to subordinate his later wishes according to the present wishes, which he prefers now. This is called precommitment in the field of self-control studies because it involves acting now against the strength of some later desires, either by taking some options off the table or making them prohibitively costly.

The economists Dean Karlan and John Romalis had a similar concept in the form of a pact to control and reduce their body weight. They had this cleaver little deal that each would have to lose 38 pounds in six months or forfeit half of one’s annual salary to the other. If both failed, the one who lost less would forfeit a quarter of his income to the other. They both lost weight but Romali’s weight popped back up over the limit and Karlan collected $15000 from the other.  Karlan had to accept the amount to keep the credibility of the system, without which they’d both get fat.

Karlan, now a professor in Yale, embarked on a venture www.stickK.com, based on precommitment. It enables users to contractually control our own actions, or if violated the agreement, face a penalty that we have chosen. The website has a rakish motto:  "Put  a contract out on yourself!". There are several ready-made binding agreements to lose weight, quit smoking, exercise regularly or any thing which you want to set as goals. You can choose your own agreement, terms and referee - who would monitor your progress on the set goals.

There could be many other ways to impose the fine other than just monetary, like sending an email to friend or group regarding your failure of achieving the goal. If money is involved, the stick.com would transfer the money to charity or a friend that you have chosen whenever you fail.  The website doesn’t take you money whether you fail or succeed other than just the transaction fee.

If you want achieve your goal at any cost, make your risk very high if you lose. You can do so by picking an enemy (called Anti-Charity) who will get the incentive if you fail in your goal. This will have highest achieving rate as you wouldn’t like to lose to your enemy.

A similar venture is Gym-Pact which is specifically to achieve exercise related goals. The catch here is one have to specify how many days one would visit the Gym and the extra amount paid for each missed day.
One can rely only on will power, but precommitment come handy to prevent yielding to sudden desire at later point of time as we know no one is perfect.

Savings and Lottery

Giving the poor an opportunity to precommit for the saving increased their overall saving remarkably by 81%.  People were given a piggy bank whose key is with a bank and were not allowed to open their savings till a specified date. This kind of experiment worked as individuals are restrained into eating their savings.
For the retirement accounts, many people prefer early-withdrawal penalties because they knew how susceptible they would be to the temptation of crack open their own nest eggs and they want the barriers left in place to keep themselves away.

Some people put their money in the numbers game, where people bet $1 or half on a three digit number and if they get lucky, they would get around 500$. The odd of winning the lottery is 1 in 1000 and hence they would get $500 for every 1000 bettings. Even though it is a negative interest on saving, but the people are saving at the first place compared to spending the dollar or two.

Paternalism

Human beings have inertia in their lives. They go with default option unless it is very much required them to change it. For example, the automatic enrollment of employees in 401K saving scheme in a company had increased the employee enrollment to 86% from 49% just by changing the default option from self-enrolment to automatic enrollment.

StcikK.com helps people to do this kind of thing for themselves. It allows people to decide which long-term goals they embrace, in effect by becoming their own paternalists. As Vito Corleone might have put it, stickK.com wants you to make yourself an offer you can’t refuse. J

People

Human relationships are important in many ways in the society, but in the self-control arena we are dependent on them as we simply cannot bind our own wills without the help of other people. It is always advisable to tell everyone or blog about your goals/resolutions. You are more likely to uphold them since your reputation is at stake and this acts as a moderating force.

Speed and proximity kill self-control; it pays to keep a buffer of time and space between you and the most dubious gratifications. The Wall Street Journal cities the example of a person who destroyed the online access code for his 401k so he could no longer have instant access to his retirement accounts. His goal was to make it significantly harder and to require human interaction before he could take out money from the account.

Summary: Self-regulation will always be a challenge, unless somebody is going to be in charge (it might as well be ourselves).

Drawdown of U.S Troops from Afghan

The United States President, Barack Obama's recent announcement of withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan explains the stand of U.S in the current scenario. This decision is in alignment with the wishes of the citizen of U.S to bring back their solders. He recognized his priority of mending U.S economy than waging war in foreign lands. After around 10 years of warfare in Afghan, the death of Bin Laden offered a defining moment for U.S for taking this step.
The implications of this decision has far-reaching. It shows the U.S's acceptance of Taliban as being part of Afghan nation and accepting that Taliban doesn't threaten America's homeland security anymore. Obama expressed optimism about the peace process and expects the Afghan government assumes the responsibility of security by 2014. The timeline for drawdown of forces - 10000 troops by end of 2011, 33,000 by mid 2012 and the remaining 70,000 troops at a steady pace through 2013-2014.
Mr. Obama completely avoided mentioning the pledge of former U.S President George W.Bush, that they would consider a Marshall plan for Afghan and instead pleaded that "this is time of rising debt and hard economic times at home and we should be concentrating on rebuilding America". The Afghans fear that the western aid and project would dry up because of this shift in perspective. If that happens, Afghanistan will revert to the late 1990s when Taliban regime first accepted the financial help offered by Laden. All hope now hinges on the next international conference that Mr. Obama will be hosting in May next year.

However, there is no need to panic as there is only a remote possibility of a civil war situation of 1990s.
In this current scenario India should establish communication lines with the Taliban and clarify its stand on Afghan to Pakistan to avoid the situation of Afghan becoming a field for India-Pakistan rivalry. India should also adopt the technique of Chinese diplomacy of normalizing relations with neighboring countries.

Never Give Up !

Its madness -

To hate all roses, because you got scratched by one thorn.

To give up all your dreams, because one did not come true.

To lose faith in prayers, because one was not answered.

To give up on your efforts, because one of them failed.

To condemn all your friends, because one of them betrayed.

Not to believe anyone, because someone was unfaithful.

Remember that, another chance may come up.

Never give up!

Containing the Inflation

There is a strong correlation between inflation and cost of consumer goods and as inflation increases these goods become dearer. Keeping the food inflation to a lower number is a daunting task which RBI and government often grapple with.To control the inflation the government has to bring in strong macro economic and monetory  policies. Secondly, the Central bank of the state, i.e., the RBI has to adjust some of its instruments to lessen the adverse effects of inflation. Finally, the RBI and government has to work in tandem to reduce the ill effects of inflation.
The recent measures taken by RBI include 0.75 percent points increase in the repo rate over six, making the repo rate the sole policy rate and the creation of the new Marginla standing Facility from which banks can borrow at 1 % point above the repo rate are all significant measures.

Food for Thought: Inflation is good for a growing economy. It suggest that the various industries are growing and is vital for a devoloping country like India, but too much inflation brings instability in food and consumer goods and deprive the poor people from their basic needs.

Re-inventing Democracy in Bangladesh

The Awami league lead coalition  government in Bangladesh is taking steps to correct the distortions of the original constitution which are done by the earlier military led governments. The ruling alliance led by prime minister Sheikh Hasina has more than three-fourth of the majority and therefore has the necessary strength to carry the amendments in the parliament.
The two recent landmark verdicts on fifth and eight amendments declaring them void and unconstitutional by the supreme court has brighten the hopes for bringing in the original constitution back and restoring the four basic pillars - democracy, nationalism, socialism and secularism.
The Awami league led alliance as bound by its promise, has appointed a special parliamentary committee to suggest the suitable amendments to the constitution to bring back the original Bangladeshi state. These recommendations will be placed in upcoming session of parliament.
Opposition to these recommendation is expected from the beneficiaries of the fifth and eight amendments but surprisingly this is also seen from some of the members of the ruling party fearing the defeat of party falling into this trap.
Indiscriminate amendments were made to the constitution by the military rulers, followed by the assassination of Bangladesh's founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975. These amendments changed the fundamental principles of constitution and turned itself into a religious based state from a secular state.
The ruling government maintained the pro-religion nature of the constitution fearing the islamic forces and the ground reality but suggested some of the useful recommendations to bring democracy.The sympathizers-turned critics see this as obvious contradiction though welcomed other amends restoring the original constitution. There are also apprehensions about the pro-islamic parties turn the state into the state similar to Pakistan in the desperation as the religion based politics are still unchecked.
For the first time Bangladesh is set to give constitutional recognition to Mujibur Rahman and incorporate the historical facts of its independence.
There are few important amendments suggested by the special committee which includes a new Article. According to this article any kind of takeover of power by military or other means would be considered as a treason. The other amendments include the recognition of ethical minorities, withholding the war criminals, who are still under trial, from participating in general elections.Besides, the committee also suggested women empowerment and protection of bio-diversity and environment.
The secularists and other optimists hope that the parliament will do the necessary action in preserving the Constitution that represent the heroic struggle for the state's independence.

Attacks on The Fourth Estate in INDIA

The attacks and threats on the media personal have seen a steep increase in recent days. The Mid-day reporter J.Dey’s murder is just an example showing the extent to which the attacks on the media has increased. This was a third murder of a journalist within the span of six months . The other two were the reporters of hindi newspaper - Dainik Bhaskar and Nai Dunia. Apart from murders, there are many other instances where the reporters and photographers are being physically attacked. In almost seven out of ten cases, the reporters were beaten up by police officials while either taking pictures of a strike or the dead militants. The Fourth estate has become the fair game for all the perpetrators who have no qualms in taking law into their hands. In some of the states of India, the complaint lodge by the scribes wasn’t accepted as an FIR but taken as non-cognizable complaint.
The other incidents of harassments on media personal include the Karnataka police charging a Tehelka reporter with a criminal case under sec.506 for undertaking the systematic investigation of a case against a political leader.
If these kind of harassment and attacks persist, will the media able to perform its duty fairly in our democracy? If media stops concentrating on the social/ criminal issues and look after their preservation, then the citizens and constitution of India will be at loss.

Dreams are just to dream about ?

Why do we dream ?
Is it just to make ourselves happy that we dream about something or  someone ?..
Is it everything to it ?
Are we showing our back to our dreams when there is a hurdle or difficulty?
Is it time to give up, when you could not achieve your dream with in the time frame which you/someone places?

I am at juncture of leaving my dream/goal and was about to seek complacency. I was also re-thinking on my goal and trying to change the path. But one thing I realize that this will pinch me in future for my inefficiency or incompetency or lack of perseverance ( donno what it is .. need to figure out the same ) to achieve my dream.

I see two different categories to it...

  1. Dreaming about someone
    • Which you don't have full control over achieving it
  2. Dreaming about something
    • This would be like to achieve some status, thing, position or say your fitness
    • Achieving this depends only on self

I have encountered first one long back. You call it silly crush or some infatuation. Yeah.. I had one like everyone else would.I tried to persuade her by all means just to realize that it is the wrong person I was after. I couldn't do any thing more about it. Like someone great said.. "If you don't like me, it's not my problem". Now I  am out of it and dream about it no more.

But what about the second scenario?
As achieving this type of dream depends solely on oneself, the former analysis doesn't hold water.
If success evades you it only means try more harder!, which I forgot for a moment.
I was at the verge of leaving one of my dream.I have this wonderful friend who reminded me my passion I had earlier to achieve it. (Friends are wonderful creatures who makes you laugh, motivates you and support you in adversities. Thanks a lot dude! )
Now it is time to rekindle it and take it to the end of the road.

I don't want to be a loser who left the battle field with out fighting.
Yeah bring me more dude.. I am still on field.. ready to fight !

Be Worry - Free

When we are happy and worry-free, we not only enjoy our lives more, but we are also more competent, creative, wise, and productive. We bring out the best in others and in ourselves. Without the internal distractions of stress, anger, frustration, and worry, our relationships flourish, stress is diminished, new doors are opened, and our lives run smoothly.

We worry about all sorts of things; some obvious, others more subtle. We worry, for example, about making or repeating mistakes or looking foolish. We worry about what others will think if we ask for help or ask for a raise. We worry about speaking to groups, about our future, and about the past.

What well does worry really do us? Some would argue that it’s “wise” to worry, that it somehow proves that you’re able to anticipate problems. Yet while being able to anticipate problems is certainly useful, I disagree that doing so requires worry.

Worry is actually a dream-snatcher. It takes an enormous toll on your spirits and on your emotions. Worry adversely affects your decisions and your judgment, keeping you on-edge, uptight, and heavyhearted.

If you know successful people in any field, you’ll find a thread of consistency that runs through virtually everyone – they don’t worry much. Interestingly enough, however, the lack of worry preceded their success and was not a by-product of it. Successful people share an inner unshakable confidence that is free from excessive worry.

Part of overcoming worry is to see it as a distraction rather than as a necessity. As worries enter your mind, try to give them less significance and less of your attention.

Impulsiveness

I was watching Bollywood movie "Turning 30" couple of days back and what stuck me from the movie is the impulsiveness of the lady protagonist She will act impulsively when her b/f lefts her and she will be desperate to make him comeback into her life. After all the effort she makes towards it and the pain she undergoes, she finally realizes he is already left from her life and then acts wisely.

This made me to think on how many times we act impulsively in our lives and the result of those actions. It is easy to say to contain them  than to do. There will be many instances in life where we act so.

I saw this with replying to some emails. It is difficult to control the tone of emails when replied immediately during conflicts. When you feed your impulsiveness to react to these emails, the rapport between teams/colleagues deteriorates. Yeah, its always wise to delay,  replying to such emails, but what can be done if the situation arises when you are talking to others. You have to reply back immediately ? Most of  the times yes, and cannot be avoided, but should be handled professionally.
This is one of the things i am learning these days. During the course of any professional life, I believe the initial part is learning work/Technical stuff. Later on the situation is mostly depends on the inter-personal, communication skills and etiquette which depends on how you act impulsively.

Does this impulsive behavior defines our overall personality?
If you are an electronic student, your impulses says yes. From the science of electronics, any behavior of a system depends on the impulse response and the behavior of the system to any other stimulus can be told accurately. If you cut the crap of science, coz we are not some predictable electronic system, but yeah we should watch out our actions!

Implications of Thinking Big

The implications of thinking big are widespread and impressive. Thinking big is a magic door opener that broadens your perspective and allows you to see new opportunities. Thinking big makes life easier and a lot more fun.

I’ve been repeatedly reminded by successful people in virtually every field that thinking big is one of the keys to success. Let’s consider a few examples. Successful insurance salespersons insist that it takes the identical amount of time to speak to someone about a million-dollar policy as it does a one-thousand-dollar policy.

The bigger your visions, the larger your potential for success. If you’re trying to sell homes for a living, as an agent, it takes the same amount of energy to ask a wealthy person for their listing as it does a low-end homeowner. You can think small, or you can think big.

As usual, the primary reason many people think too small is fear. Thoughts like, “I can’t speak to a room full of people,” “I can’t risk taking on a larger project,” and “I couldn’t ask the boss to have lunch with me” fill the mind and are taken too seriously. When fearful thoughts enter the mind, try to banish them. The fear you are experiencing is almost always self-created and usually unnecessary.

Could you be thinking in larger terms? In most cases, the answer is yes! There may be ways that you can reach more people with the same amount of effort. Regardless of the business you are in, the first step is to eliminate any fear or worry that is getting in your way. As your worrisome thoughts gradually disappear and become less appealing, new ideas and insights will begin to emerge.

Semester IV

After the end of Semester III, we stayed back in campus preparing for the placements. We did some combined studies and group work for the placements :P

If I am not wrong, placements for our class started with Sasken Technologies taking a double digit of students. I was placed in XILINX, thanks to my project. The placements were good during our course of stay and every one was on cloud nine once the season ended.
What followed was night outs with teen-patti and AOE.
Cards distribution by Ravi.
Photography : me :)
Wake up whole night playing games on LAN, brush and have breakfast at 7.00AM and go to bed was kind of a routine after placements. Project was just a matter of how one manage things.
Watching movies together, playing volleyball, cricket were other activities.I remember playing Basketball with Prof. RVR and we were amused by his fitness.
I have literally undergone mental torture for the last couple of months regarding my project. I was just waiting to finish my studies there and finally I dealt with project submission somehow.

 TSE 2006-2008 Batch
The joy of finishing my project and holding a offer letter of a company was to one side and sadness of leaving friends, campus, the atmosphere was to other side of the mixed emotions I was going through.

When I now look back, even the torture seems to be a sweet memory when shared with friends.
These two years are among the memorable days of my life and I definitely miss my stay @ IIT Kgp

Semester III

Takshashila
The compulsory course work was done in first two semesters and we had to work on a project for one year during Sem III and IV. One could choose some audit subjects but need to fulfil attendance and marks criteria to get a course certification.
Plenty of free time, and only one project to concentrate on. Initial months of Sem III wasted in just browsing some of the technical journals and papers. My guide was busy all the time and I got little guidance from him.
When asked, he would say,  "come up with your own subject for project" and I had no clue.
I finally converged on some project which involved some baseband processor implementation on Xilinx FPGA.It was no new thing and I was not good at it.

Ravi, Girish, Vamshi, Sujit , Bala and me were given computers in Takshashila.

I should mention one of my friend Shiva - "Cycle Chain". Thats his DC++ ( s/w for lan sharing ) name.He spent most of his time in sharing and organizing downloaded music, movies and videos.
( My roommate Ravi comments that he spends time in copying and renaming them with his tag and then share them :P )
I should also mention about one of my best buddies - Sujit Jos.
Sujit and Me
Famously been called as SJ for his PJs and the tricks. Our friendship started from a misunderstanding and after exchange of words over some petty issue. This guy is great source of enthusiasm and one would never get bored in his company. One of the Einstein minds with around 6-10 IEEE papers published during the M..Tech course. This number is greater than what Ph.D students would publish. He is a great fun-lover, Badminton player and a martial arts student. Hope he teaches one of his Nun-Chakoo techniques to me someday. :)

We daily go to our respective labs in Takshashila at around 9AM, browse internet for an hour or so and have tea break for half an hour and browse internet again and go for lunch break.
After lunch break, take a nap, come back to labs at around 3 pm browse and then have some more tea.
My Desk @ MSPC lab in Takshashila
I only remember more of tea breaks in labs than the work we did :)

Age of Empires was the next time consuming activity at campus.
During this semester we started preparing for the placements which would come at the end of SemIII.
We formed a small group among ourselves and started conducting mock test and interviews which helped us a lot in final placements.

Semester II

In Winter the cold is terrible in Kgp. After the First Semester exams, we headed home. We had around 20days of holidays and that was a relief from unbearable climate in the campus.
When we are back in campus, the tension of results followed. Which grade I got, what's my CGPA? were the bothering questions. One of the reasons to the importance of First sem results is - it decides the second year project guide. Better your CGPA, better options of Professors available to chose from. I was second topper of my class and I had all the options available :) .
I chose SCK and only later I got to know the odds against it.
One of our Classrooms
More and more we got acquainted to the campus and the climate, our attachment towards it grew better.
Mess food.... Yawk! We hated it many times, which helped the business of restaurants and eating-spots like chaddi's, Little Sisters and billoos.

.
.
.
.
.
.

Holi was one of the good memories of this semester. A Picture is worth more than 1000 word :)

 Euphoria !
Can't get wilder than this! :P

He is Mr. Shyam.
This is one of my Fav Holi pics :)
No Hard feeling mama :P
In MMM Hall Mess-
After Holi Celebrations

Spring Fest was Rocking and we enjoyed it very much. Playing cricket became a weekly event by organizing matches with other Hostels.

I could not recollect much of the Semester II, but overall it was Studies, Fests, Cricket.

Semester- I

Life in a campus was new to me. The atmosphere at campus on the first was great with students moving here and there to find their alloted room and getting over the admission procedure to adjust in their new hostel rooms.Introductions, Hi-Hello's followed.I was given Room 323 with Ravi as my roommate.

The initial shopping of ours included the bicycle, bed and other necessary things for a bachelor to live.
MMM Hall
Few of my friends (Ravi and Girish) were waiting for IIT madras to declare the final list of students and were delaying the shopping in the hope that their name would include in the list. But (fortunately for us), that it didn't happen otherwise we would have missed good friends.

Ravi , My Roommate: When I first saw him, I was afraid of his tall and semi-dark personality. I thought he would be very rude, full of bad habits like smoking which I cant bear. To my surprise I found he is totally opposite- Very shy guy with child-like behavior and thank god he doesn't smoke.

One of my friends, Suresh bought a cricket bat during the first week of our stay and yeah,in India cricket connects people and our circle of friends just exploded covering many in it.
One of the peculiar thing about the Kharagpur environment is the unpredictability of rain. It is one of the important advise by the seniors that umbrella is a must, irrespective of  clouds in the sky.
If one forgets it, he need not take a bath again :) .

Who says life at IIT is a cake walk?
To reach IIT is difficult, but to stay at IIT withstanding the academic pressure is much more difficult.
A gathering on - "MMM Hall Day"
Waking early for 7.30AM class, working on the assignments till late night and preparing for the sudden tests[which profs warn initially] are some of the bouncers.
Attending classes , without bathing, in pajamas wearing chappal and always being late to those early morning classes are fun to recollect. Breakfast vs Early class was always a dilemma, many a times we used to manage both.
Ravi, Girish, Venu, Vamshi, Shiva, Suresh, Sujit, Shyam are few among my classmates in KGP.

Overall, First semester taught us handling the pressure of being at IIT and joy of bicycle riding in a huge campus, other than the technical learning ofcourse.

Handling Criticism

This is a newsletter of HareKrishna movement and worth sharing it. This is how it reads...

To become a top performer, you’ll need to open yourself up to feedback from those around you. Here are some steps you can take to ease the sting of criticism and begin to make it work for you, instead of against you.

1.Hit the Pause Button - It’s important to maintain your composure and not lash back or respond defensively to criticism. Take a breath. Don’t do or say anything. This brief pause not only helps you compose yourself and prepare to listen to what the other person has to say, it demonstrates your poise and self-confidence. Maintaining your composure when criticized shows that you’re in control.

2.Turn On Your Brain and Turn Off Your Emotions - It’s important to disconnect your automatic emotional response to criticism. Otherwise you won’t be able to objectively consider the value of the information. Focus on the words and facts, not on the feelings they generate within you. Regardless of how undiplomatic the other person is in delivering the feedback, tell yourself that it is designed to help you improve, not to tear you down.

3.Listen Carefully - Listen intently to what the other person is saying. If you’re busy formulating your rebuttal, you may miss some valuable information that can help you avoid errors in the future or improve your overall performance.

While any criticism can be discouraging, it’s important to keep in mind that negative feedback can contribute significantly to faster growth and higher performance.

Business - Poultry Farming

I did this with out having much knowledge and data regarding the business and went ahead investing Lakhs.
There were many parameters which i had no control over.
If I had to list them

  1. Selling price - I realized that Poultry business is not actually a business but farming. And as every farmer I had no control over yield and price.
  2. Perishable Aspect - There is always a risk involved if you are producing some perishable goods. You have to sell it even at losses otherwise you loose your entire investment. My target was Dec25 and Jan 1st and 14th  market where the price of chicken will be normally high but to my hard luck, 2010 dec25 -Jan has seen the worst price. To add to the fuel,  diseases and mortality of chicken has further eaten away my investment
  3. Labor issues - After I entered into this business, I realized how difficult it is to get a trustworthy labor and to handle them. I guess this is the most boiling issue of many businesses and I hats-off to the one who can contain these
  4. Leasing a land - This is the most irritating aspect I found with this business. Unlike any office space or  outlet, leasing a land has an issue of owner intervention at every point.
  5. Rural Aspect - The environment and the people around the cities are way different than from the rural. Connectivity, lack of skilled people and security are to name a few concerns I had.

After above discussion one can easily guess what could have been to the investment and yeah , you are right! The business simply sucked the money as the ground sucks infinite amount of charge with out changing its voltage potential. The worst part of it is that I had convinced two of my friends to invest in it and they contributed half of the investment. As a part of good gesture and friendship I said I will return the money coz money comes and goes, but friends would not!

Now I am burdened with this loss and god knows when I will be out of it !
But I know I will be out of it soon and start afresh on some solid idea. :)

My only advice to enthusiastic people is to beware and not to burn your hands with the manufacturing sector producing perishable goods ( yeah i know I am generalizing a bit )
