How to prepare for an Icebreaker?

Following are the aspects one need to consider for his/her Icebreaker speech

Objectives of a good Icebreaker
  • Icebreaker speech asks you to speak in front of the audience and help your audience to get to know you. That's all !! :)
  • How?
    • By giving insights into your life- from childhood to your present life
    • This should include where you are born, Family details, Education, hobbies, your aspiration etc..
  • Why?
    • To build a personal connect with audience whom you are going to make friends. Probably for life time!!
    • Also, It helps to connect with like minded people
      • Ex: same alumni, same state, same future aspirations or hobbies)
  • Speech duration : 4 to 6 mins with 30 sec grace time
    • Considering the average word count (100/120 words per minute). Recommended word count is 500-550 words
  • Have an Opening, Body and Conclusion

Please answer these questions for yourself
  1. Will audience know me better after my speech?
  2. Am I speaking about all the important aspects of my life?
  3. Is there any take away message from my life to the audience? ( optional)
You can find the descriptive Icebreaker document from Toastmaster at this link

Owner of a Lonely Heart

"Owner Of A Lonely Heart"

Lyrics
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Move yourself
You always live your life
Never thinking of the future
Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser

See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you - and that's the only way

Shake - shake yourself
You're every move you make
So the story goes

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Say - you don't want to chance it
You've been hurt so before

Watch it now
The eagle in the sky
How he dancin' one and only
You - lose yourself
No not for pity's sake
There's no real reason to be lonely
Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
You've got to want to succeed

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

After my own decision
They confused me so
My love said never question your will at all
In the end you've got to go
Look before you leap
And don't you hesitate at all - no no
Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
[repeat]

Owner of a lonely heart

Sooner or later each conclusion
Will decide the lonely heart
It will excite it will delight
It will give a better start

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

Don't deceive your free will at all
Don't deceive your free will at all
Don't deceive your free will at all
Just receive it

Owner of a lonely heart

Don't Worry Be Happy!!

This is a nice song I came across- "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin.
Enjoy the song, rhyme and the rhythm.

Lyrics
______________________________________________________

Here is a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy......

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The land lord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Look at me I am happy
Don't worry, be happy
Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me
I make you happy
Don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got not girl to make you smile
But don't worry be happy
Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy (now).....

There is this little song I wrote
I hope you learn it note for note
Like good little children
Don't worry, be happy
Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry
You make it double
Don't worry, be happy......
Don't worry don't do it, be happy
Put a smile on your face
Don't bring everybody down like this
Don't worry, it will soon past
Whatever it is

Don't worry, be happy

Emotional Equations

"A set of simple equations to guide you through life".
This is the promise of the book and the author Chip Conley has fulfilled his promise. This book gives you a hard time especially if you are not patient enough and not paying enough attention to the the equations and how can you use them for your benefit.

Couple of equations I liked and would like to use them as my light post are:

  • Happiness= Wanting what you have/Having what you want
  • Flow=skill/challenge
  • Calling=Pleasure/Pain
  • Anxiety= UncertainityX powerlessness
To understand how you can use these equations you will need to read the book and it is good read. As I read through it, I could understand the anxiety and dilemma of a entrepreneur and I am sure that it will help me one day when I become one. :)

I admire the idea of simplifying the emotions using equations and play with them to become more happy and take control of life.

I will refer to these equations when in need and it will help you too to guide you in your difficult times.

Awkward Questions!!

Santa noticed that Banta was looking depressed, and asked what was wrong.

"Well," said Banta, "I ran afoul of one of those awkward questions women ask. Now I'm in deep trouble at home."

"What kind of question?" asked Santa.

"My wife asked me if I would still love her when she gets old, fat and wrinkly."

"That's easy," said Santa. "You just say 'Of course I will.'"

"Yeah," said Banta, "That's what I did, except I said 'Of course I DO...'
